Kyushu Dental University Long-Term Vision 2035
Message from the President
As a comprehensive university specializing in oral medicine, we conduct education, research, and clinical activities.
Our university is the only public university among all dental faculties and dental universities in Japan, and is a "comprehensive university of oral medicine" consisting of the Department of Dentistry and the Department of Oral Health. Our primary goal is to cultivate individuals who can provide patient-centered dental care for the next century, and we strive to develop compassionate and practical dental professionals through holistic dental education activities.
The Department of Dentistry was founded over 110 years ago. Meanwhile, the Department of Oral Health, tracing its history back to the affiliated Dental Hygiene College, has a history of training dental hygienists spanning over 70 years. Our graduates are active in various fields both domestically and internationally, including in community healthcare settings throughout Japan.
In recent years, as the environment surrounding dental care has been undergoing significant changes, higher education is required to shift from "what was taught" to "what was learned and acquired." Our university has been at the forefront of various educational reforms, including the introduction of outcome-based education and the promotion of clinical practice that involves patient participation.
At our university, we cultivate the principle of "Think globally, Act locally," which is emphasized not only in dental education but in various fields, through various educational activities such as international educational exchange programs and community dental health activities. Our ultimate goal is to train dental professionals who can play an active role on a global level in dental medicine and the healthcare field.
Oral health is extremely important for maintaining overall health and quality of life (QOL). In Japan, which is facing a super-aging society, the need for dental professionals in the medical and welfare fields is increasing more than ever. Therefore, our university believes it has a mission to train dental professionals, such as dentists and dental hygienists, who can contribute to society more than ever before.
