What's the atmosphere like in the department?

It's a friendly and harmonious atmosphere with nearly 100 students per year. However, during exam periods, everyone unites and studies with all their might, creating a well-balanced department. Compared to dental departments at other universities, the number of students is large, and the timetable is fixed for each year, so it's like high school where everyone moves between classrooms! Because we share the same class schedule as our friends, we enjoy going out somewhere during our free time, trying out new restaurants, and generally having fun every day!

Why Kyushu Dental University?

There are many reasons why I chose Kyushu Dental University, such as its proximity to my home and the beauty of its campus, but one of the biggest reasons is that it is the only national or public university that has an affiliated hospital dedicated solely to dentistry on campus. Because it is not a hospital integrated with medical departments, the dental department is further subdivided into specialties such as Orthodontics, Division of Pediatric Dentistry, and Oral Surgery, which I believe will allow me to gain more valuable experience through practical training and other activities.

What's your favorite class? What do you recommend about it?

While lectures on subjects like physiology and histology, which teach about the workings of the whole body, are certainly interesting and engaging, my favorite class is the clinical experience practical training. We divide into groups of students, with one taking on the role of patient and the other the dentist, and we also go to the affiliated hospital to receive treatment as patients. Experiencing the dental healthcare setting from a patient's perspective is a practical experience that I believe will be very useful in my future career as a dentist.

How did you spend your time after school? Please tell us about your memories of club activities!

After school, I often spend my time working part-time or studying for the irregularly scheduled exams for each subject. After overcoming a particularly challenging exam or finishing a demanding internship, I refresh myself by going out with friends or having a meal after school!

Do you have any goals for the future?

I want to become a dentist who is attentive to patients' needs and earns their trust. I want to alleviate the anxiety of patients who have the image that "the dentist's office is a place where painful and scary things happen," by listening to even the smallest concerns of patients and acquiring the skills to fulfill their requests to the fullest extent.

Because it's a specialized university, you can naturally deepen your friendships with your classmates, but there are also plenty of opportunities to get to know upperclassmen and underclassmen through club activities and school festivals, making it a really fun university to attend! Also, you'll be working hard with wonderful friends towards the same goal of becoming a dentist for six long years, which naturally boosts your motivation! Let's work hard together at Kyushu Dental University to become excellent dentists!
