Through patient experience training at Kyushu Dental University Hospital and professionalism education courses, students learn to understand patients’ concerns and suffering and to provide patient-centered dental care. Furthermore, by participating in joint practical training with dental students, they learn about the role of dentists and the importance of team-based healthcare, thereby fostering the professionalism expected of students aspiring to become dental hygienists.

Clinical training at Kyushu Dental University Hospital provides students with exposure to cutting-edge dental care while enabling them to acquire both fundamental and applied knowledge of the work processes of dental hygienists. External clinical training deepens students’ understanding of holistic healthcare that protects life and daily living through oral care and feeding and swallowing support for older adults, persons with disabilities, and care-dependent individuals requiring special consideration. The program also includes comprehensive lectures on nursing, caregiving, and regenerative medicine, which are essential for multidisciplinary collaboration and the practice of advanced dental care.

The School offers a wide range of nutrition-related subjects, covering topics such as “Dietary Theory for Health Promotion,” “Food and Health,” “Nutritional Science,” “Life Stage Dental Nutrition,” and “Clinical Nutrition.” Students receive lectures and practical training that prepare them, as dental professionals, to collaborate with other healthcare and long-term care professionals in providing dietary education support tailored to the development, maintenance, and recovery of eating function, and in promoting dietary education from an oral health perspective.

WADS Camp

WADS stands for “We Are Dental Students.” It is an off-campus training program for first-year students in the Department of Dentistry and the School of Oral Health Sciences, as well as fourth-year students in the Department of Dentistry, with each program having a specific theme.

A journey for first-year students to consider their future as dental healthcare professionals

Based on mini-lectures by faculty members and senior students, first-year students discuss such questions as: What kind of profession is dental healthcare? What dreams do they have for their future careers? What kind of student life should they lead in order to realize those dreams? Through recreational activities, they also build bonds with many fellow students across departmental boundaries.
WADS Camp, where students can share their thoughts and perspectives, serves as a stepping stone for them to take a fulfilling university life.
