The Division of Comprehensive Dentistry is different from a specialized medical -division, is responsible for general dental care, primarily focusing on primary care.
The Division of Comprehensive Dentistry, located within the university hospital, is responsible for general dental care, focusing on primary care, unlike specialized dental divisions. We primarily focus on treating cavities (restorative and endodontic treatment), periodontal disease treatment and prevention, and providing treatment to improve and maintain oral health, including dentures (removable prostheses), crowns and bridges, and post-treatment maintenance. We also collaborate with specialized departments as needed. In addition, we conduct dental checkups, including periodontal disease screenings and dental checkups for pregnant and postpartum women.
Our division plays a central role as an educational institution within the university hospital, and many dental trainees and interns gain experience under the guidance of supervising dentists.
Our services focus on basic general dental care (primary care) and preventive dentistry before specialized treatment is required. We also offer dental checkups, lifestyle-related disease screenings, periodontal disease screenings, and dental examinations for pregnant and postpartum women. We primarily treat the following conditions:
Symptoms such as a bad bite, jaw pain, or general pain in the mouth or face may require consultation with a specialist, and specific treatment may be provided by that specialist.
Sensitivity to cold: Tooth decay
Occlusal pain/spontaneous pain: Inflammation inside or at the tip of the root (pulpitis, apical periodontitis)
Tooth mobility, bleeding gums, bad breath: Periodontal disease
Dentures are painful or easily come loose: Dentures don't fit properly (ill-fitting dentures)

Inspection
We perform general oral examinations and periodontal tissue examinations necessary for general dental treatment and preventive dentistry. We also collaborate with the radiology department to perform X-ray examinations of teeth and jaws.

Regarding the private dental services offered in our division
Streptococcus mutans test [Treatment Overview] Streptococcus mutans is considered one of the oral bacteria that cause dental caries, and a high correlation is known between the number of bacteria in the oral cavity and the susceptibility to developing caries. Therefore, this test is performed to assess the risk of developing dental caries in each patient by measuring the number of these bacteria. In addition, comparing the number of bacteria before and after treatment is said to be useful in estimating the prognosis.
[Standard cost of treatment] This test is performed using a commercially available test kit. The cost is 1,440 yen per test.
[Risks and side effects related to treatment]
Since this is a non-invasive test using saliva, the risk and possibility of side effects are considered to be extremely low.
In addition to this test, it is expected that the accuracy of predicting caries risk will improve by combining it with other tests such as Lactobacillus bacteria testing and saliva secretion volume testing to comprehensively assess the risk.
