Associate Professor Takuma Matsubara of the Division of Biochemistry at our university was awarded the 63rd Academic Research Encouragement Grant from the Mishima Kaiun Memorial Foundation.

The research theme that received the grant was "Novel physiological functions of food mediated by ectopic taste receptors."
My collaborator is Professor Osamu Kaminuma of the Research Institute for Radiation Biology and Medicine, Hiroshima University.

　I am deeply humbled to receive such a generous donation of 5 million yen over the course of a year. This research, which focuses on the function of taste receptors expressed in skeletal tissue, has the potential to overturn conventional wisdom, and I am truly delighted that the significance of tackling this topic from the perspective of a dental school has been recognized.
　We will diligently pursue research aimed at elucidating new physiological mechanisms that link taste perception with bone and skeletal muscle metabolism.
