Department of Comprehensive Dental Practice Educational Development

From April 2026, Division of Comprehensive Dentistry,The Division of Clinical Education Development and Research and the Division of Promoting Learning Design for Innovative Education have been reorganized.It became a single course.

• Our research focuses on medical communication and professionalism, encompassing student education, dental residency training, clinical practice aligned with comprehensive dental care, and research in dental education and behavioral science.
• Through clinical education centered on clinical clerkships and research related to education and clinical fields, we aim to cultivate dentists who can practice comprehensive care and contribute to the local community.
• We conduct institutional research (IR) and research related to dental education, from undergraduate education to clinical residency training.
• In clinical training education, we are focusing on revising postgraduate clinical training programs and building a seamless educational system from pre-clinical dental education programs to postgraduate clinical training.

Division of Periodontology

We conduct research from various perspectives on elucidating the causes of periodontal disease, establishing new preventive and therapeutic methods, and the mechanisms of its systemic effects.

Division of Endodontics and Restorative Dentistry

We contribute to health promotion through education, research, and clinical practice in "dental treatment (endodontics and restorative dentistry)," which studies the treatment of dental caries and diseases affecting the dental pulp and periapical periodontal tissues.

Division of Dysphagia Rehabilitation

In this field, we aim to contribute to society by maintaining and improving oral and eating functions through oral health management, feeding and swallowing rehabilitation, dental home visits, and educational and research activities.

Division of Occlusion and Maxillofacial Reconstruction

With an eye on future dental professionals, I teach courses in partial and total tooth loss prosthetics, maxillofacial prosthetics, and clinical reasoning. I also practice dentistry, including removable dentures, maxillofacial prosthetics, temporomandibular joint disorders, and sleep apnea.

Division of Oral Reconstructive Prosthodontics

Dental prosthetics is a medical treatment that reconstructs teeth and periodontal tissues lost due to disease or trauma, restoring oral functions such as chewing. In addition to conventional dentures, we aim for patient-centered dental care that incorporates implants and regenerative medicine.

Division of Biomaterials

Our research focuses on improving and developing dental biomaterials and manipulation techniques, as well as developing and applying dental-related materials, equipment, and technologies, in order to create precise and durable dental restorations.

Division of Community Oral Health Development

In recent years, with the aging society leading to changes in the disease structure of oral diseases, we have been conducting research that approaches the elucidation of the pathogenesis of diseases and clinical findings that are increasing from both epidemiological and experimental medical perspectives. Division of Clinical Epidemiology

In terms of education, I teach subjects related to clinical epidemiology and evidence-based dentistry. In terms of research, I conduct international clinical epidemiological research to address various questions encountered in daily clinical practice.

Division of Comprehensive Internal Medicine

As one of the few medical fields at our university, we teach internal medicine. Our research primarily focuses on analyzing the relationship between dental health and internal medicine, as well as predictors of mortality in the elderly, based on population epidemiological surveys.

Division of Anatomy

This department was established through the integration of the Department of Head and Neck Structural Analysis and the Department of Oral Tissue Functional Analysis. We are working on analyzing the functional structure of taste buds, the developmental mechanisms of teeth and the maxillofacial region, etc., using histological and molecular biological methods.

Division of Physiology

Physiology is the study that aims to elucidate the mechanisms of living organisms, serving as the foundation for all medical sciences. In addition to teaching students knowledge and function, we also focus on oral pathophysiology research to elucidate the pathogenesis of dental diseases and develop new treatment methods.

Division of Biochemistry

Through biochemistry and molecular biology, students learn about the mechanisms by which cells, the smallest units of life, perform various biological functions. Our research focuses primarily on bone and skeletal muscle metabolism, and we are actively engaged in collaborative research and exchanges with Harvard University in the United States.

Division of Infections and Molecular Biology

We view infectious diseases from the perspective of "the interaction between microorganisms and hosts," and in addition to providing education aimed at training excellent dental professionals, we are also conducting research activities on the effects of oral microorganisms on oral diseases and the entire body.

Division of Applied Pharmacology

Our research aims to investigate, at the molecular level, the mechanisms by which various bodily functions influence each other, and to contribute to the development of new drugs and the more accurate use of existing medications.

Division of Oral Pathology

This is a branch of basic dental medicine that aims to clarify the nature of various diseases that can occur in the oral and maxillofacial region. It can be said to play a bridging role between basic dental medicine and dental clinical practice.

Division of Oral Functional Development

Our medical staff strives daily to strengthen their awareness and improve their knowledge regarding CBT, OSCE, and national examinations, to enhance cutting-edge medical care and contribute to regional healthcare, and to publish higher-quality research results and secure external competitive funding.

Division of Orofacial Functions and Orthodontics

We strive to provide high-quality, continuous dental care to local residents through comprehensive treatment, research, and education that is not limited to orthodontics and treatment alone.

Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology

Our research aims to improve the accuracy of diagnosis for various oral and maxillofacial diseases by developing new imaging techniques and discovering characteristic findings for these diseases. We also dedicate ourselves to providing education in the fundamentals of radiology.

Division of Dental Anesthesiology and Pain Management

Our research focuses on respiratory management during intravenous sedation, establishing methods for long-term systemic management of elderly surgical patients with complications, building regional dental care systems for people with disabilities, and treating intractable oral pain.

Division of Maxillofacial Surgery

This field focuses on clinical practice, education, and research related to congenital and acquired diseases of the oral cavity, jaw, face, and surrounding tissues, primarily those requiring surgical treatment.

Division of Oral Medicine

The establishment of the Oral Medicine and Jaw Deformity Clinic is a response to Japan's super-aging society. The number of patients with oral diseases who also have systemic diseases is increasing, and the aim is to train dentists who can effectively treat them.

Section of Primary Dental Education

We provide the foundational education necessary for specialized training, while also striving to cultivate the human qualities required of dentists, including the knowledge of social dentistry and a strong sense of ethics.

To cultivate dental hygienists who can contribute to the healthy lives of residents through oral health, we foster not only basic knowledge, skills, and attitudes, but also a broad range of specialized education that spans all stages of health, along with the ability to put it into practice.
